Award winning Brisbane-based composer and performer Rafael Karlen has teamed up with renowned pianist Steve Newcomb and guitarist Toby Wren for an intimate trio project with new album Trace.
Released in December 2016, Trace is the third album Karlen has created with pianist Steve Newcomb but signifies a more open, improvised and flexible direction than Karlen’s previous releases The Sweetness of Things Half Remembered, Driving Hat, and Hope In My Pocket.
Featuring original compositions, a Swedish folksong They Sold Their Homesteads, a Renaissance Kyrie by Dufay and a Serenade by Schubert, Trace elegantly traverses a compelling variety of material.
