James Sandon’s Soul Jazz Odyssey is an exploration in groove and improvisation, using selected repertoire from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. An all star band of Australia’s finest musicians has been assembled for one night only. Hotel West End 19th May.

Matt Smith is most commonly known as the lead guitar player of Australian rock/pop band Thirsty Merc. However, he keeps busy in the Australian music scene as a session guitar player recording and touring with artists like Pete Murray, Karise Eden, James Morrison, and The Strides.
Steve Newcomb is an Australian pianist and composer equally in demand for his unique touch on the piano, detailed writing, and comprehensive style of arranging that explores the realm shared by jazz and new music. Based in Brisbane, Steve is Head of Jazz at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
AJ Hall is an in-demand electric and double bass player from Brisbane. After majoring in jazz bass at the Queensland Conservatorium, he has gone on to work extensively throughout Australia, Europe, the United States and Asia.
Sam Mitchell is a Brisbane based drummer in Cheap Fakes, with a deep connection to soul, jazz and funk. His playing can be described as interactively driving and engages the band and the audience in a wave of rhythmic and melodic phrases.
James Sandon possesses the combination of instrumental technique and natural melodic and rhythmic drive. Having played and recorded around the world, now based in Brisbane, he is currently a lecturer in jazz studies at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University.
