Jazz faculty, alumni, and students will combine for a show that features locally grown compositions from Australia and New Zealand.
Featuring Steve Newcomb Quintet
Assembled by pianist and senior lecturer in Jazz, Steve Newcomb, the show will feature the quintet configuration favoured by artists such as Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter.
This classic quintet sound will be explored through Newcomb’s compositional work, and fresh interpretations of pieces by Gian Slater, Barney McAll, Kadhja Bonet, and Bill Stewart. Along with fellow faculty member and explosive tenor saxophonist James Sandon, the show will feature Newcomb’s longtime collaborator Carl Harvoe (trumpet), who is alumni of QCGU.
Also joining is recent Jazz staff addition Hannah Macklin (voice), and two exceptional postgraduate candidates Elliott Parker (bass) and Christopher Evans (drums). A show not to be missed!
James Sandon – tenor saxophone/percussion
Carl Harvoe – trumpet
Steve Newcomb – piano
Elliott Parker – bass
